Danario Alexander will bring his talents to St. Louis.
Former Missouri standout Danario Alexander signed a contract with the St. Louis Rams today, ending a frustrating period of waiting for the wide receiver. The Rams completed the transaction by cutting wide receiver Brooks Foster.
Here at Mizzourah, we have wondered for weeks why no one was taking a gamble on Alexander, if you could call it that. Getting Alexander is like drawing pocket aces in Hold ‘Em or two face cards in blackjack—you might lose, but you are putting yourself in a pretty damn good spot. But even if his knees crumble or his ankle ligaments twist together like pretzels, having Alexander on the team makes you a winner no matter what. In my three years of covering Missouri football, I have never spoken to a more mild-mannered, humble superstar. With unparalleled potential and great leadership, signing Alexander is a home-run for a struggling Rams team that hasn't had quality receivers for years.
Don’t expect Alexander to make the team with his signing coming just a few weeks before the regular season begins. He should have a good chance of making the practice squad, however. With Donnie Avery appearing to be the only lock as a top receiver, Alexander will definitely get some looks from Steve Spagnuolo. Mardy Gilyard, a rookie out of Cincinnati, will be pushed by Alexander as he tries to show the country what they passed on in the draft.
Alexander will catch passes from the No.1 pick and former Big 12 rival, Sam Bradford. Alexander and Bradford actually roomed together at an off-season camp so hopefully that'll help their chemistry in St. Louis.
