This is pretty cool. Via the one and only Dave Matter:
Assigned No. 24 by the team that selected him in the second round of last month’s draft, Moore immediately lobbied new teammate Von Hutchins for his number, 25. That’s the number Moore’s late teammate, linebacker Aaron O’Neal, wore at Missouri before he died following a summer conditioning workout four summers ago.
“Whenever I feel like I can’t go the extra step, I think about Aaron and what he put on the line,” Moore told AtlantaFalcons.com after a recent minicamp practice.
Come preseason camp, Moore will get his wish. Hutchins, a veteran cornerback, agreed to give Moore No. 25 in exchange for a donation to the Lupus Foundation of America. Hutchins’ mother suffers from the chronic inflammatory disease. Hutchins, a six-year veteran from Ole Miss, is an avid supporter of the foundation’s Georgia chapter.
“It will be a great opportunity for both of us to do something that’s special to both of our hearts,” Hutchins told the team Web site.
