We're gonna make this short and too the point because I don't want to think about this game any longer than I have to.
- It didn't make much of a difference because of the way that kansas and Mizzou were playing, but the officiating was absolutely horrendous. DeMarre Carroll was getting mugged on just about every play. The worst call of the night might have been on that Miguel Paul offensive foul call when the replay showed that one of the BB Gun Twins was clearly sliding his feet as Paul drove into him. But for some reason Jim Spanarkel and Ian Eagle refused to point out that it was anything but a great call.
- No Tiger looked more lost in the first half than DeMarre Carroll. He settled in a bit in the second half but was completely out of control early on (as was J.T. Tiller who really needs to work on developing a more consistent jumper this offseason). It's hard for a young team to stay poised when its leader is playing as poorly as DeMarre was. I'm a little worried that DeMarre has fallen in love with his 3-point jumpshot. Yes he can hit an occasional trey. No that doesn't make him Reggie Miller. We've seen this happen before with bigs who hit a few threes and then decided they could live on the perimeter (Marshall Brown, Darryl Butterfield). Lets hope DeMarre's a little smarter than that.
- I found it strange that Mike Anderson did not reinsert Kim English into the lineup until the second half after picking up two quick fouls. As bad as we were hurting on offense I thought it would have been worth taking a chance by putting him back in. We needed a spark from somewhere.
- Props to Leo Lyons for being the only Tiger that came out ready to play. I think that's the first time I've ever said that. Seems like when Leo plays well everyone else does too. Obviously not the case yesterday.
- I thought a rare bright spot from this game was the play of Miguel Paul. He was hardly great but was a lot more composed than he was for the game in Columbia. He picked up a couple cheap fouls but also got a couple steals and made a few plays. He also looked a lot more confident than he had the past several weeks. That makes two solid performances in a row for MP3. Hope he keeps it up.
- I really hate this kansas team. Much more so than last year's National Championship team. Not sure why. Something about the BB Twins, Brady Morningstar's T-shirt and that Reed kid who just looks like a bitch.
- That's about all I can stand to say about yesterday. Don't expect a flat performance on Wednesday. Mizzou Arena should be fired up and Mike Anderson's boys should be eager to get that bitter taste of Lawrence out of their mouths. Fortunately, this loss was hardly a season-breaker. We can still win a conference championship if we can string some wins together next week in OKC. Hopefully we get another shot at the beakers away from Allen Fieldhouse. If we do, it should be a much different story.
