Solid 13 point win against an SEC team ON THE ROAD. If you read the preview post, I predicted a tough game being that it is a road game, and Mizzou cruised to the 38-25 win. Coffman and Rucker played well, the defense wasn’t horrible (get to that in a minute), and Chase Daniel did his best Timmy Chang impression. If you thought this game was going to be a cakewalk, you’re an idiot. This was going to be tougher than Illinois (last time I checked, St. Louis was in Missouri. Still is.). Ole Miss had more experience than Illinois, another great back in BenJarvus Green-Ellis, a better overall defense, yet Mizzou still torched them for a big win.

With that said, let’s get to the pointers…

-Welcome to 2007 Tony Temple. Nice game. Over 100 yards rushing, which is what we need against good competition. Chase can overcome a piss-poor day against Western Michigan or Illinois State (which he better not have anyway), but getting into the Big XII season, it’ll be tough without at least 80 yds/game with a few receptions from T-Squared.

-To the defense, I grade you a B. The offense will throw up the points, and Ole Misstress only outscored us by 8 points in the 2nd half an early blowout, but tighten up. Darnell Terrell, Pig Brown, Brock Christopher played well. Hardy Ricks loves hitting, not coverage so much. Hate to harp on it again, but Big XII has better receivers than what you’ll find at Ole Misstress. Defense was a little uninspired for the entire 2nd half, but cranked it up when needed.

-Anyone else disturbed by PxP voice Mike Kelly? He chalked it up as a win with a few minutes remaining. Being a life-long Mizzou fan, I’ve seen W’s turn to L’s quickly. Mike does a great job with Learfield, but when they are within two TD’s with time still on the clock and Hardy Ricks in coverage, any team is only two plays from being down by one. Don’t give the final score until Mizzou is in victory formation or the triple zeros are on the clock. You’ll jinx us, bastard!

-Also read several posts on Tigerboard.com of people not being able to pick up the game on radio. I will link to the top, but KMOX in St. Louis streams each game on the net. You can hear Mike Kelly try to jinx us. Bastard. I also felt like a baseball fan from 1934 gathered around listening to the broadcast. It’s great to hear Tiger broadcasters, but damn, give me a TV. Not even asking for HD, just put it on! I also now hate ESPN.com. What kind of bullshit network makes you pay for “Real Time Scoring”? How about this; www-dot-foxsports-dot-com. Yes, Fox Sports, you’re now my homepage. Props to them for gamecasting, which is also how I had to follow several games yesterday. Great job Rupert Murdoch. You deserve the Shakespeare Pizza Playa of the Week, but…

-There is a tie for the Shakespeare Pizza Playa of the Week: Will Franklin (8 rec, 105 yds, 2 TDs) is proving to be a premier receiver in the Big XII with the way he’s blown out of the gates. Nice game and with Saunders and Maclin, Chase is becoming more comfortable with three receivers out of the spread set not named Butterfingers Ekwerekwu. Willy Mo Franklin will have to go dutch on his pizza with Chase Daniel (31/43, 330 yds, 5 TDs), who can start that Heisman campaign after a good game next week. Dap to Chase for destroying yet another defense.

-Chances are decent of either a 7p game or an ABC game, maybe both against the Fuskers. Expect the Tigers to be 4-0 and the Huskers 4-1 (at best). Worst case scenario, 7p game on FSN (Big XII Game of the Week). More drinky at tailgating for me; got the tickets in the mail yesterday. Should be a good caravan of Tiger fans stuck in Omaha on the way down. If you’re one traveling from Nebraska to Columbia, hit Highway 36 East in St. Joseph and go to 63 South to Columbia. Knocks some time off, and you’ll avoid speed traps on 70. No matter what team you root for, nobody wants a ticket from the po-po. I’ll be killing the next four days at home in St. Louis, hopefully checking in with the Rams/Cardinals on Sunday, and hopefully a Cardinal playoff game *fingers crossed* before coming back to this damn state.

Props to AJ with one of our Friends of the Family, Huskerh8er.com, for info on the Husker’s top recruit for ’08. QB Blaine Gabbert is shitting the bed and already looking like a bust at Parkway East as a Senior. Nothing like a fellow St. Louisan blowing off Mizzou, where he would have had a better chance at starting his Sophomore or RS-Freshman year with Daniel and Patton graduating in ’09. Maybe we will get to see Blaine play in-state after all; Missouri State could always use help.
