One of the mostly ignored position battles that Tiger fans should probably be more concerned about than they have been is the battle for long snapping duties. I'm not going to say long snappers win championships but bad long snappers can certainly lose them. Nothing shifts momentum like a botched punt.

Having to replace three-year starter Steven Blair and punter Adam Crossett would seem to make this an area of even greater concern. But after an atrocious spring punter Jake Harry has been getting good reviews. And as far as long snapping goes, according to Dave Matter Gary Pinkel is all smiles.

"The Tigers have found a long snapper. Two actually. The last few days, freshman Beau Brinkley, a second generation long snapper and preferred walk-on from Kearney has split snaps with senior linebacker Brock Christopher — another Kearney native — and could be a special teams fixture for years to come. Freshman offensive lineman Brad Madison has also been working into the rotation as the Tigers try to replace three-year automatic snapper Steven Blair."

I've heard of second generation quarterbacks, linebackers, kickers and even punters. But never have I heard of a second generation long snapper. But hey, if Brinkley ends up as solid as another Kearney grad who walked on for the Tigers we should be in good shape.
