Don't forget, people. Matt Lawrence will be swishing threes in Detroit tonight at 6:30 pm (but will be shown on ESPN at 8:00 pm... stupid tape delay) as he takes part in the State Farm College Slam Dunk and Three Point Championships. He'll be competing against a bunch of guys I've never heard of and two that I'm vaguely familiar with. Lawrence will go against Craig Moore out of Northwestern; Jimmy Baron from Rhode Island; Erik Kangas out of Oakland; Booker Woodfox straight out of Creighton; John Grotberg from Grinnell; Alex Ruoff of West Virginia and Jack McClinton from Miami.
I just have one question; what the hell is Grinnell? Oh, what's that Wikipedia? You have the answer for me? Super.
Grinnell College is a private liberal arts college in Grinnell, Iowa, U.S. with a strong tradition of social activism.[3] It was founded in 1846, when a group of pioneer New England Congregationalists established the Trustees of Iowa College.
Thanks Wikipedia! I knew the internet was for more than just blogs and pornography!
They're a D-III program and according to the Grinnell athletic site, John Grotberg is the all-time NCAA 3-point leader at any level. So I guess he's got that going for him.
I like Matt's chances, personally, because I've done absolutely no research aside from finding out what the hell Grinnell is. I've seen Ruoff and McClinton play and that's it. So yeah, go Matt.
I'll definitely be yelling out "Bang!" like Mike Kelly every time Lawrence sinks a three. It's gonna be great.
