In Sunday's edition of the Columbia Tribune Dave Matter revealed that Chase Daniel suffered a thumb injury during the Big 12 Championship Game and speculated that the injury may have played a significant role in Daniel's meltdown during the Alamo Bowl.

Chase was quick to downplay the injury's significance and explained his late-season struggles as a product of poor decision making. But he also conceded that the injury did cause a considerable amount of discomfort and caused him to loosen his grip on the ball.

My take: Chase might have had a poor game in the Alamo Bowl even if his thumb was 100 percent. We've seen him struggle before when he's been completely healthy—especially this season—so that wouldn't be a huge surprise. But his complete meltdown was unlike anything we had ever seen before. It had Bernie Miklasz comparing his performance to Rick Ankiel's in the 2000 Divisional Playoffs. You can't tell me that it's just a coincidence that he also was battling through an injury to his throwing hand for the first time in is collegiate career.
