Of course, as we've dicked around with more of the new gadgets on Mizzourah 2.0, we've got a little bit of help for you.
-If you're viewing on Internet Explorer as your web browser, on the very top by the URL you'll see a torn up piece of paper as an icon (Compatibility View). Click that to make the site more compatible to what you've got going on with your IE browser. We realize there is a crap ton of stuff going on on the front page; videos, ads, whatever. The Compatibility View is typically used for messing with old sites to bring them to standards, but if you do that, it eliminates a major error that I was having while using IE. Of course, if you're using FireFox, you're already doing 10x better as I quickly learned. FireFox hasn't had 10% of the problems that I had on Internet Explorer. Again, if on IE, do the Compatibility View button and that should eliminate most of your problems.
-I killed off Mizzourah 1.0. Did it Ol' Yeller style: backyard, shotgun, and now it's washed up in some ditch in blogosphere heaven...or somewhere not so heavenly. As I mentioned when we kicked this 2.0 off, we would have everything from the old site archived, which we do. It's all under the 'Archive' tab up top, and under 'Blogspot Content'. Like that kid that got hit by the train sophomore year of high school and got the front page in the year book, Mizzourah 1.0 is gone but not forgotten. Wait a second. This thing may be back on track instead. I guess I'll know more tomorrow. Either way, the .blogspot could be on the Green Mile or could just be a walking zombie right now. FREAK SHOW!
-Of course, you can sign up for a Bloguin commenting account HERE. It is free, as usual, and gets you some stuff that other non-users don't have like not having to fill out CAPTCHA in your comments. If you still refuse to sign up for an account, that's fine...you can still comment. It's just an extra step or two to fill in the box every time with your handle/site/email and then CAPTCHA.
The Bloguin account is going to become handy here pretty quickly. Another Friend of the Family is coming aboard the Bloguin ship in the next week I believe, but I'll let them spill the beans on the entrance (Hint: if you've been around Mizzourah for awhile, I can almost guarantee you've hit their site. Duh duh duhhhhhn.).
-We are also contemplating a Live Blog of some games. Rock M Nation usually does a bang up job on this, so I'm not sure what I want to do. I usually just point you that way, but now we have a little more opportunity to do it on here. Anyone interested in listening to me rant not being under center, having my dog give handshakes after every TD, and that my nacho cheese just burnt a hole in the roof of my mouth?
Podcast is in the works for Sunday. That'll be up on iTunes (search 'Mizzourah.net'. It'll be on here too). Me drinking myself into bolivan for the Cutler v Denver game Sunday along with a few Fantasy Football drafts should make for an innerestin' (read: drunk) podcast. Of course, if you haven't already, make sure you get in the Big 12 Bloggers Pick 'em League. Again, FREE and I fully expect a Mizzou winner.
Since football does begin tomorrow (Northwest Missouri State @ Abilene Christian!), just one final rule as you begin your tailgating season:
Props to Big12sports.com's Wendell Barnhouse for the great nuggets in his Mizzou preview.
The first seven games will be crucial. Missouri opens the season in St. Louis against Illinois, a team that has lost four consecutive games to the Tigers. Missouri's last non-conference game is a dangerous Friday night visit to Reno to play a solid Nevada team that almost won in Columbia last season. The Tigers open Big 12 play with a Thursday night game against Nebraska, then plays at Oklahoma State and hosts Texas. A 2-5 or 3-4 start to the season could wreck Mizzou's confidence.
I was pretty drunk by the end of that 69-17 win over Nevada last year, but I still realize that 52pts doesn't equate to "a solid Nevada team that almost won in Columbia last season.". The logic that 'Mizzou has beat Illinois the past four so it definitely can't happen a fifth time!' is great too. Keep up the stellar work, Wendell.
It has been waaaay too long, but now that we are 24hrs away from football, it's a celebration. And yes, I said 24hrs. Northwest Missouri State takes on Abilene Christian on CBS Sports. It's time we take a look at the Mizzourah symbol of a good time: Jessica Biel's ass.
Wearing a smaller knee brace, right tackle Dan Hoch (sprained left MCL) sat out all drills but could return to action as soon as Saturday but more than likely on Sunday, Pinkel said. "It'd be nice to get him back for one of those" practice days, "but we might not get him back until Tuesday," Pinkel said. "But you have to have a Plan A, a Plan B and maybe a Plan C and Plan D."
Also, looks like Jared Perry is back with the 1st string (surprise!).
Jared Perry's work with the No. 2 offense was short-lived. Pinkel confirmed that the senior receiver is back as the starter at the X-receiver position. Pinkel was asked if Perry is back in the coach's good graces.
"He just earned his job back," Pinkel said. "He's always in good graces; I love the kid. But you've got to play well and be consistent. I think we're catching the ball a little more consistent, but not as consistent as we need to be."
So this has absolutely nothing to do with Mizzou but since we're on the topic of college football entrances I thought I'd post it anyways. Ginger Balls linked to this video and I cannot stop watching it. I seriously just tried running through the wall in my living room. That's how jacked I am after watching this video. Great example of why college football is so fucking awesome.
Now can you imagine taking the same atmosphere and substituting Metallica with any song ever performed by The Fray? Didn't think so.
When you think of bands that would be good to use for a college football video that will get you pumped up you generally think of the usual suspects: Eminem, Trick Daddy, AC/DC, Van Halen, The Fray....Wait, what was that last one? The Fray? If you're Oklahoma State then The Fray is exactly who you think of. The same crappy band that has produced overly sentimental bullshit like "How to Save a Life," "Over My Head" and "Never Say Never" has produced the pre-game video for the Cowboys.
Note to Mike Gundy and the OSU athletic department: If you're trying to get the rest of the college football world to take you seriously then getting a band that 95 percent of your players are guaranteed to hate to produce an entrance video is probably not a good idea. You're gonna need to win a national championship for me to be able to look at your program with a straight face ever again.
Credit goes to PowerMizzou scribe Pete Scantlebury for the link. Cowboys Forever? Oh my God that's funny.
I've been following the story of Oklahoma LB Mike Balogun, who has been deemed ineligible due to playing some semi-pro football a few years ago. You might remember the background on Balogun. He was doing construction, and blah blah blah, he's starting for the Sooners.
Well, the problem for the Sooners is Mike Balogun played in a handful of games for the Sooners in '08, including the B12 title game against Mizzou. If Balogun is deemed ineligible as Memphis' Derrick Rose was, the Sooners could end of forfeiting all the games he played in during the '08 season...including the Big 12 Championship Game to Mizzou. According to an AP article:
Even if a judge had ruled that Balogun could play this season, that still wouldn't have settled the issue. If Balogun eventually lost his lawsuit, Oklahoma may have had to forfeit any games that he played.
So just like your godawful Little League team, a forfeit still counts as a win, and everyone gets to go out for pizza and ice cream if your parents are rich, or your dad can steal Fun Dip from the 7-11 if you're parents are poor. Either way, IT'S A CELEBRATION! Your Big 12 Champs gear will be on sale soon, and we already have a preview of the shirt.
