Steckel will coach from the sideline
It's official: Defensive coordinator Dave Steckel will coach from the sideline this season on game days, along with cornerbacks coach Cornell Ford on defense; d-line coach Craig Kuligowski and safeties coach Barry Odom will work in the coaches' box. Coordinators have always coached from the coaches' booth in the press box under Pinkel, and his mentor Don James, but after doing some research on the topic, Steckel is staying put. (More on that in Tuesday's Tribune.) On offense, coordinator David Yost and co-O-line coach Bruce Walker will work in the booth; co-line coach Josh Henson, receivers coach Andy Hill and tailbacks coach Brian Jones will be on the field. (At least that's how the weekly media notes have the coaches assigned, though I thought Yost told reporters today that Henson will be in the booth with him. I'll have to check my notes.)
