Greetings from our Chicago Bureau. As the latest addition to this excellent blog, I'm looking forward to filling your hungry eyeballs with words. As you well know, MizzouRah didn't need a new writer - they've always done great work here. However, a change of pace back can be a sexy addition to one's running game (see: Kendial Lawrence), and I hope to add to an already great site.
Thanks to Big Head for his welcome post; it was nice to see he included a picture of me pre-gaming for the Jay Reatard show last fall. Its always nice to put a name with a face, right? Facts about myself:
Likes: Gambling, an aged port after a medium steak, women, alcohol, the Missouri Tigers, sleeping, good music, the world wide web, Christmas, bodies of water.
Dislikes: the kansas jayhawks, sooners, huskers, celebrity culture, terrorists, losing wagers, hangovers, having your soul raped in Arrowhead on 11/29/2008 by a white QB turned WR.
I know you probably want me to write more about myself, probably eight or nine more paragraphs, but enough about me! Let's talk gambling. This week's lines. Winning money. But first, there are experts who make weekly picks and have better winning percentages than I, so check out Phil Steele, Dr. Bob (if you're rich) and others before you throw your daughter's prom dress fund down on MizzouRah picks. Obviously. Picks after the jump.
Season record ATS 34-30 (+3 Units), lines are Mirage as of 2:10 AM, 10/8
3 Unit Play:
Nebraska (-3.5) at MISSOURI (Thursday Night)
I thought I was patient in waiting for bettors to move this line up to 3, but I missed out on the hook and many books now have the nubs at -4. If you're reading this you've already consumed plenty of analysis on this contest. Suffice it to say that yes, Mizzou's running game has struggled, Nebraska may have Jesus Suh, and Gabbert will probably throw INT #1, but the huskers are riding last year's strong finish, their historical rep and their 2009 mastery of the Sun Belt Conference to a lot of favorable public perception that simply isn't warranted. The husker defense is solid and has yielded only 4.4 yppl, but the Tiger defense should neutralize (relatively) the Zach Lee led attack and Gabbert and Ressel will continue to impress. Who knows what that evil bitch Mother Nature will do but current reports show the rain clearing up in time for kickoff. The 'Zou will be rocking and the Tigers won't lose tonight.
Go big on MISSOURI as they win outright, 30-28, continuing the revenge for 1979 to 2002.
1 Unit Plays:
Baylor (+25) at OKLAHOMA
You know a team hasn't been historically significant when a large portion of in conference fans express regret over your team losing a star QB. I'm a jaded motherfucker but even I was sorry to read the news that Griffin won't be dazzling fans for Baylor this year. Without their dual threat kid the Bears can't hang with a seriously pissed off Sooner team looking to justify their AP ranking.
Pick OKLAHOMA as they cover with a 41-10 victory. I still fucking despise the Sooners though.
Auburn (-2.5) at ARKANSAS
Chizik! Offense! Sooey! This game should be entertaining as hell with more points than fake IDs at Shiloh. Although the visitor is 6-1 in the past 7 in this series, I think Auburn is overrated and can't out race the high octane Petrino attack in front of the…interesting home crowd.
Pick ARKANSAS but take the points as the sketchy defenses could keep this one close. Hogs win 34-30.
Stanford (-1) at OREGON STATE
Two dudes I would not want to piss off are Stanford's Owen Marecic and Toby Gerhart. Marecic is the nasty fullback who has obliterated would be tacklers for Gerhart in his impressive start to the 2009 season (a Pac 10 best 650 yards in 5 games). Raise your hand if you thought that the Cardinal would win games by bludgeoning the competition to death. I didn't think so. Jim Harbaugh is the man and I'll take Stanford in a close one in Corvallis.
Cash in on Stanford in a 27 - 24 Cardinal win.

Boston College (+13.5) at VIRGINIA TECH
BC has looked decent this year and Shinskie hasn't disappointed, but they simply don't have the horses to walk out of Blacksburgh with anything better than a two TD loss to the Hokies and their ferocious Bud Foster defense. These two teams are familiar with each other after squaring off in the last two ACC Championship games in addition to their regular season tilts. Look for the Virginia Tech offense to continue to progress as they win this one easily.
Pick VIRGINIA TECH with the 27-10 win.
Best of luck, degenerates! I've only got the 5 picks this week because not much jumped out at me. It'll be a great weekend in College football as Big 12 league play starts and we'll enjoy a few great SEC and Big 10 match ups that would give even Stephen Hawking a boner (sorry).
Enjoy the Tiger game and pray that the rain gods get distracted by playoff baseball and leave CoMo alone tonight!
