Time to get in the game
LOOONG time lurker, first time poster. Been a fan since the 1969 Orange Bowl team and season tix holder since 1977. Graduated from MU in 1983 and was on hand for the end of Onofrio, Powers, Woody, Stull and Smith. Like some of the other old grizzled veterans here, I was somewhat taken aback by alot of the comments preceeding the win at Colorado. The 3 game losing streak was painful and frustrating for certain, but the reactions by a portion of the fanbase caught me offguard. Does this feel anything like those previously mentioned endings? Maybe I'm one of the so called kool aid drinkers, but other than my college years when we felt it was our God given right to winning football at Missouri, a two year miraculous breakthrough during the Larry Smith era and the current coaching regime, our very football existance has been only for the hardiest of fans. No one is denying that at times we all question a coaching decision or the play call selection, but I am sincere when I state that I think the program is in an almost immeasurably better position today than it has been for most of my 40 years of following the Tiger program. We have a boatload of young talent that will be back for the next 2 years for the vast majority, more on the way with what is shaping up to be a very good ( albeit small in numbers ) class, and still a good shot at a winning record with a bowl game appearance at least for this group. For those that get frustrated with our performances against the Oklahomas and Texas and feel our only recourse is to start over with a new staff, let the season play out. Maybe I'm crazy, but with a healthy quarterback I see the possibility of finishing 9-3. If not, I'll root for 8-4, if not that, 7-5. Maybe I'm just getting older, but I find myself in less of a hurry to make too much of erratic performances from a young team. I've felt and seen alot of endings, this team has better days ahead. GO TIGERS, make it a 2 game winning streak!
